Hardeep Rai joins growing list of possible challenges for Charlie Leary
Lightweight Hardeep Rai brushed off Sam Patterson’s challenge at the Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions preliminary card with a first-round Knockout and is looking to face more experienced opponents as he progresses in his professional MMA career, after a great run as an amateur. And the Englishman wants to challenge his countryman Charlie Leary, who was also victorious on Brave 9.
Leary knocked out Daniele Scatizzi in the third round, spoiling the Italian’s Lightweight debut, and his performance has not gone unnoticed as former UFC fighter Norman Parke and Lucas “Mineiro” Martins both called out the Englishman after Brave 9. However, Rai’s reasoning for challenging Leary is personal, since he said, in an interview with MMA UK, that Hardeep was “beatable”.
“I felt disrespected by his interview with MMA UK. I think I showed against Patterson what I’m capable of. Felt like I proved him wrong. Now I want to face him next and hopefully Brave can make it happen”, said the Lightweight.
Curiously, Hardeep’s latest victory came against a training partner of Leary’s. Rai was supposed to face American Alex Trinidad, but “The Ice Cream Man” was injured during one of his last training sessions before Brave 9, and was replaces by Team Crossface’s own Sam Patterson, who made weight, but wasn’t able to stop the hands of Hardeep Rai. The Englishman won his second professional bout, and is now 2-0 with Brave Combat Federation.
