Brave 2 holds tribute to Chapecoense plane victims

Brave 2 Dynasty started in a mix of excitement for the upcoming bouts but also lots of respect and condolences for the victims of the tragic accident with the Brazilian football club Chapecoense.

Visibly moved, the official announcer Carlos Kremer came into the ring and before any other thing asked the fans at the Khalifa Sports City to respect a moment of silence in honor of the memory of the 71 victims.

Last Tuesday, the flight that was suppose to take Chapecoense to Medellín, Colombia, for the first leg of Copa Sudamericana’s final, never got the final destination. Among the victims of one of the biggest tragedies in the history of professional sports were 19 Chapecoense players, all the club staff on board, and several Brazilian journalists.

Brazilian fighter also recalls tragedy

The only Brazilian on Brave 2 card, Alex “Leko” da Silva, born and raised in Santa Catarina, the same state of Chapecoense, also paid his tribute after defeating Daniel Swain on a preliminary bout.

“I would like to say something about what happened”, he said at the cage. “It was a really sad thing. But we have seen so many good and supportive gestures through the last days from the sports community that I’m sure, no matter how tragic it was, they will go through and move on”.
