Inspired by Germany’s 7-1, Timo Feucht aims Brave title and predicts new tragedy for Brazil

The Light Heavyweight contender is set to face Klidson de Abreu on August 12th, in Curitiba, at the main event of Brave 8: The Rise of Champions

On July 8, 2014, Germany faced the host nation Brazil in the semifinal of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in a match that’s forever in the history of sports. In one of the most shocking results ever seen, the German squad performed nearly perfection and beat Brazil 7-1 in front of almost 60,000 people. The win paved the way for the country’s fourth World Cup title.

Three years after the biggest tragedy in Brazilian sports history, a German fighter wants to come to Brazil and impose another crushing defeat to the local fans. 21-year-old Timo Feucht is undefeated in his professional MMA career and is set to fight for Brave Combat Federation’s inaugural Light Heavyweight title against Brazil’s Klidson de Abreu in Curitiba.

Feucht spoke Germany’s MMA website “GNP1” and recalled the 7-1 match, promising another loss at home for the Brazilians.

Check out Feucht’s full interview to Germany’s GNP1 below:

Hi Timo. You are fighting in August in Brazil against Klidson Farias. What do you know about him?

Yes, I have had a few people who have asked about him. He is a strong grappler. It’s definitely his strength and I think he would want to take me down.

Brazilians are famous for their grappling credentials and he has won several fights via submission. Would you go to the ground with him or avoid it?

Am not sure. It usually depends on the situation. If something feels right I might risk it. But as long as I feel that he has the advantage on the ground and I have the advantage standing. Then, it wouldn’t be very smart for me to go into a ground fight.

For your last few fights, you have prepared abroad. Have you planned trips this time?

I was already in the Alps but apart from that this time I will be preparing at home. This time we are bringing guys to us. Thank you to ‘Joker’ Christopher Henze for handling all of this and bringing the elite strikers and grapplers to our gym in Leipzig.

Who did you bring over this time?

Jesse Urholin from Finland, Zbigniew Tyszka from Poland, two of Europes best black belts. Zbigniew has trained with Peter Sobotta and Marcin Bandel. We also have Steven Kitzing and Rene Hoppe (#5 ranked in Germany), Sebastian Heil (#8 ranked in Germany) coming over.

The fight is for the first Brave LHW title. What does that mean to you?

The belt means a lot to me. It’s an absolute honor to fight such a big fight abroad in the home of MMA. It’s an honor and I am really excited for it and am preparing as hard as I have ever before.

How did the contact happen with Brave?

A big thank you to Tim Leidecker who sorted this out for me. At first, I was happy and shocked, and couldn’t really believe it. I heard that there was something big brewing and started from that day to go and prepare hard. I couldn’t have expected it to be this big though.

In your last few fights, you always had the crowd on your side. In Brazil against a Brazilian, this will not be the case. Does this bother you?

I will put it this way, having the fans behind you at home is always great and pushes you. But fighting for the Brave LHW title is all the motivation you need.

Do you feel more or less pressure because of it?

I am not sure. I fought once in Croatia and didn’t have the fans behind me and it felt good. It was a short fight. I think it will be fine.

Germany vs Brazil. A football fan like you would think of the 7-1 in the World Cup. Is Farias due for such a rude awakening?

(Laughs) It’s the next loss for Brazil. We’re definitely not going to Brazil to come back in 2nd place. We want to bring back the gold to Leipzig.

What is your prediction for the fight?

An exact finish I don’t have in mind. It really depends on how he starts, how he reacts, what he does. We’ve been training for all types of scenarios.  I have been preparing very well in all facets of the game. So, regardless where the fight takes place, I am ready.

You are still only 21 years old but already have 6 finishes. What are your plans for the coming year?

I always said I want to set my goals humbly but then you get such an opportunity with Brave. My intention is to move forward step by step and keep myself grounded. I don’t want to jump into something without thought and then end up going down in flames. It should be the right moment. Like you said, I am only 21 years old. I still have everything ahead of me. Even a loss wouldn’t take me down massively because I have all the time in the world make it up.

Any parting words for your fans?

A big thank you to Christopher Henze, Tim Leidecker, my coach Benny who is always there for me. Thank you to La Familia Fight Club for their constant support. And to everyone else who is helping with the preparations, financially, sportingly or mentally, thank you.
