Ahead of Brave title fight, Mangat reveals inspiration on teammates GSP and Demetrious Johnson
Former Welterweight world champion, Georges St. Pierre faces Michael Bisping for the Middleweight title this Saturday and hopes to add another belt with the help of a familiar face for Brave fans: Bantamweight Gurdarshan “St. Lion” Mangat was among his training partners at the famed Tristar Gym. Looking to add a world title of his own at Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions, Mangat has also helped Demetrious Johnson beat Ray Borg and cementing his status as the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. Gary has open doors with both fighters’ camps.
Scheduled to face Stephen Loman for the inaugural 61 kg. world title in Bahrain, Mangat has hailed GSP as an inspiration and said it was an honor to witness his comeback from retirement into one of the biggest fights in MMA.
“It has been a real honor to witness the road from what it was to where he is right now. Georges St. Pierre is a warrior through and through”, claimed the Bantamweight, who was also encouraged and inspired by his Mighty Mouse’s performance last month and has hailed Johnson as a winner in and out of the cage.
“He is the example of the perfect modern warrior…not just what he displays in the cage but who he is altogether as a man outside the cage, from a fighter to the family man he is, to the humbleness he has kept in a time that is easy to turn against all that. In a game that it’s constantly evolving, to keep evolving with it, no champion has done it like him and may never again but the bar has truly been set high and he is still pushing it”, claims Mangat.
“St. Lion” also revealed that the man himself Demetrious Johnson sent him a message wishing him good luck in his upcoming battle.
“Hope training camp is going well. Thanks for everything, brother. Excited to see you compete!”, said the champ.
Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions marks the promotion’s return to Bahrain after a year. During 2017, Brave Combat Federation expanded its operations, putting on groundbreaking shows in countries such as Brazil (twice), Mexico, Kazakhstan, India, and the United Arab Emirates. Brave 9 will be the culmination of the International Combat Week alongside the IMMAF World Championships, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
